KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm is the largest technical university in Sweden. About one-third of Sweden’s technical research and engineering education capacity at university level is provided by KTH. Education and research at KTH spans from natural sciences to all branches of engineering, including Energy, Industrial Management, and Urban Planning. KTH is an international university with researchers and students from many countries. KTH is host to several national research centres and is a participant in several European projects. KTH is also a major partner in four of the five Knowledge and Innovation Communities formed by the EU’s European Institute of Innovation and Technology – EIT. Two such communities, relevant in this context are InnoEnergy within the field sustainable energy and EIT ICT Labs within information and communication research.

The School of Electrical Engineering at KTH is considered to be among one of the top 20 in the world and one of the top 10 in Europe. The department of Electromagnetic Engineering (KTH ETK) participating in the project is within this school. The Polygeneration research groupis doing research on combined energy systems with multiple energy services as output. The research questions address the influence of system control on the required storage capacity, cross-linking of sub-system waste energy as a resource for other sub-systems and methods for minimizing the internal electric energy consumption. The Polygeneration research group will be part of this project.
