India-Sweden joint R&I call on smart grids on track

On 4 March 2021, the Swedish Energy Agency and the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India (DST) in collaboration with Team Sweden in India organised a virtual workshop regarding the Indo-Swedish joint research & innovation call on smart grids.

The workshop witnessed a participation of around 40 actors from the Indian and Swedish side including leading universities, companies and consultants. It also included pitch presentations from 16 participants (eight each from India and Sweden) wherein the companies and groups highlighted their project ideas and partner requirements.

Prime Minister of the Republic of India Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Sweden Stefan Löfven held wide ranging discussions during a Virtual Summit on 5th of March 2021. The two Prime Ministers welcomed the India-Sweden collaborative industrial research & development programme on smart grids.

Virtual matchmaking on 24–25 March 2021

To take this forward, a virtual matchmaking workshop is being organised on 24–25 March 2021. DST has appointed Global Innovation & Technology Alliance (GITA) as their local partner to support with this process whereas Business Sweden’s team in India is supporting the Swedish Energy Agency.

GITA is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) company promoted jointly by the Technology Development Board (TDB), Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). It is responsible for professionally managing the Government’s funds, providing flexibility to industry for undertaking R&D along with global partners.

GITA and Business Sweden will be reaching out to registered and potential participants to check their interest and requirements. Accordingly, meetings will be setup with potential partner to facilitate the matchmaking activity.

Call details

The joint call is organised under the India-Sweden Collaborative Industrial Research & Development Programme. The Swedish Energy Agency has set aside SEK 25 million to support collaborative projects between Swedish and Indian parties in the area of ​​smart grids. The agency’s Indian counterpart, the Department of Science and Technology, has set aside a corresponding budget.

Projects that apply for support must be bilateral cooperation projects where Swedish and Indian actors collaborate and co-create. The projects must be industry-driven from both Swedish and Indian sides.
